What is an implant?
A dental implant is a titanium screw which functions as the root for a missing tooth. Titanium does not cause any allergic reactions, because the body accepts it as its own tissue. After being fitted in the bone, an implant becomes the “natural” root of your tooth and provides a stable base for singular crowns, bridges and dentures.

Implant therapy course:
1. A medical consultation intended to determine the general condition of patient’s health and learn about what they expect from the treatment.
2. Implant fitting:
the procedure is performed under local anaesthesia
the procedure takes about 30–40 minutes
usually, a few implants can be fitted during one visit
a fitted implant is fully hidden below the gum and the place in which the implant is made is stitched up
3. Within one week of the procedure you may experience some mild pain and swelling.
4. The period required for an implant to integrate with the bone is usually from 3 to 6 months (in the case the implant fails to integrate, another implant may be fitted).
5. Mounting the restoration on an implant (crown, bridgework).
In some cases, an implant can be fitted immediately after tooth removal. This is possible when the cavity created after removing the tooth is smaller than the diameter of the planned implant.
Advantages of having implants fitted:
implants prevent irretrievable bone loss after tooth removal
implants replace natural roots, therefore there is no need to prepare the neighbouring teeth in order to restore the teeth
implants ensure the stability of crowns and bridges
they offer the same chewing ability as natural teeth
implants restore appropriate functionality and offer the aesthetics of natural teeth
implants are the most stable solution among the other solutions within the scope of prosthodontics.
When it is recommended to get implants:
no age limits (apart from children)
lack of a permanent tooth primordium
lack of tolerance to conventional dentures
a single tooth is missing
numerous teeth are missing, which creates gaps of various sizes
all teeth are missing
Contraindications for implants:
the factor that decides whether an implant may be fitted is the condition of the patient’s health
pathological changes to the soft tissue in the oral cavity and osseous tissue of the jaw and mandible
grinding and clenching of teeth
insufficient amount of the osseous tissue to fit an implant
